Office/Man Cave

Cowfold - West Sussex

As I have said before, we do build a great many offices and each one has its own idiosyncrasies. It is always great fun to get to know clients and understand what exactly they want from a Garden Room both functionally and in the way it is decorated and furnished. People’s personalities really help to shape a design and in this case, this building really does reflect its owner’s personality and loves.

The brief for this project was a large functional garden home office which was discreetly positioned in the garden that could accommodate a couple of motorbikes on display. The client in this case runs his own design business and is a huge petrolhead who absolutely loves cars and bikes. And anything with an engine really. As a year-round, functional office we designed a light and welcoming entrance with large sliding doors and a substantial workspace that could comfortably fit two desks, filing cupboards and printers. Air conditioning was included which has been a real saving grace over this long hot summer. And of course, in order that the bikes could sit proudly in the building a substantial concrete base was laid ensuring a solid floor that would never flex under their weight.

Measuring 5.7m x 3.2m there is plenty of space. Our construction method is extremely substantial and allows for a great deal of insulation which not only helps keep the building warm in winter and cool in summer it also has exceptional soundproofing qualities. You could even fire up one of the bikes and not disturb any neighbours. There were sockets fitted both in the walls and the floor to allow versatility of internal layout and it was hard wired to the internet for uninterrupted access and the use of a VOIP telephone system.

Externally the Garden Room was clad in Canadian red cedar with anthracite grey UPVC doors and windows. We installed low-energy LED spotlights inside and out on dimmers and a hard-wearing, oak-effect laminate floor with very wide boards.

This is a fantastic office with some of the coolest decor and accessories we have ever seen. Not only is it comfortable and perfectly functional but it is an extremely fun and inspirational place to work.
