With years of experience in constructing garden rooms for a host of purposes, we can make the addition of a sauna garden room to your home an easy one. Using the best materials, the best technology, and our industry know-how, the introduction to your garden sauna room project starts here.

What is a garden sauna room?

A garden sauna room gives you a great opportunity to bring the qualities of your local sauna to your back garden. Free from the crowds of people and free from the restrictions of opening hours, a sauna garden room gives you complete seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day, access to your own relaxation haven.

With no need for planning permission and a simple installation, you can benefit from the inclusion of a garden sauna room on your property in just a matter of days.

Sometimes referred to as sauna cabins, a garden room sauna can be created in a host of styles to suit the aesthetic of your home and garden easily. When you choose Timber Rooms, the garden sauna room is created in your vision, enabling you to enjoy it just as you planned. Built from materials that can handle changes in both heat and humidity, a sauna garden room from Timber Rooms provides comfort, durability, and safety without compromising the build quality.

Saunas have come a long way over the years, the traditional method of pouring the water on hot stones, whilst still widely used – especially by those seeking a more authentic and traditional experience –  has now been widely replaced with infra-red saunas, and heat and humidity-controlled devices that regulate things a little more than the more old-school methods.

At Timber Rooms, we are open to incorporating any style of sauna you wish to use, if you prefer traditional, that’s great, if you would like to factor in a more modern heating system, that is not a problem either!

Choosing a garden sauna and steam room

Choosing a garden sauna and steam room

With Timber Rooms, the selecting of your garden sauna room isn’t simply picking one from a selection of mass-produced products, it’s a careful process where you inform us of your wishes and then our team of professional designers set to work to transform your dream into reality.

We start with a phone call, simply give us a call telling us about your wish to install a garden sauna room at your property. We will go through a few quick questions and learn a little more about what it is you want.

We then attend your property at a time convenient to you and assess the land, the space, the access to power, and anything that could benefit or compromise the installation of your garden room with sauna. Importantly, we listen. We listen to your specific requirements, from shape and height to functionality and cost and all that’s in between. Once we have taken your requirements on board and assessed the garden, our cadre of expert designers will get to work. Providing a variety of 3D drawings that outline every aspect of the build, they give you the full breakdown of how your vision becomes your reality. If you are happy, we will work with you to find a perfect start date, if you spot a few problems or have budget concerns, just talk to us. We can then amend the plans and provide you with a new set of 3D illustrations that take into account all your adjustments. If you then give the green light, we move forward and begin to set things into place.

Using the same methods as those used in the construction of timber frame houses, you can rest assured that a garden sauna room from Timber Rooms is built to last, built to look great, and built for you. With the ten-year structural guarantee too, you can remain confident that Timber Rooms have built your garden sauna room with long-term use in mind.

Things to think about when choosing a garden sauna room

Things to think about when choosing a garden sauna room

At Timber Rooms, we work with full transparency. Always being open and honest with you concerning costs, practicality, design and functionality. You may have grand ideas but if they are unworkable due to current regulations, would put you over budget or deviate from your initial objectives, you can trust us to give you a full explanation as to why things may need to be altered. In addition, we always advise people opting for a garden room with sauna to consider the following:

  • Do you need a changing room? The sauna garden room may be within the grounds of your home but for added practicality, it may be factoring in a space you or your guests can change before and after using the sauna.
  • Is it worth adding a shower? A sauna is made to make you sweat so despite its cleansing properties; you may still want a shower afterwards. Much like the changing room, adding one to your garden sauna and steam room could be a worthwhile addition. All our rooms can have the water supply as well as power supply connected.
  • Enjoy the outside space. Our sauna garden rooms can be complemented with a terrace allowing for a relaxing atmosphere for you to enjoy the sun and fresh air after your sauna. This not only gives you further downtime but as part of a wellness regimen, spending time outside has fantastic mental health benefits.
  • Incorporate an interior space outside of the sauna. The sauna itself can act as a closed-off part of the garden sauna room allowing you to have a space to unwind before or after you have been in the sauna itself. This way you can entertain guests without being caught in colder weather outside. Factor in furniture, a small bar or screens and you have your own micro health club in your garden.

Do you need planning permission for a garden sauna room?

Do you need planning permission for a garden sauna room?

You’ll be pleased to know that the addition of a sauna room in your garden is unlikely to need planning permission. Current rules state you will only need planning permission if:

  • Your garden sauna room is more than two floors.
  • Your sauna has become a permanent residence for an individual.
  • The garden sauna and steam room take up more than 50% of the garden surface.
  • The sauna room passes the front of your house.
  • The height of the eaves is more than 2.5m.
  • The overall height is more than 4m on an apex or reverse apex roof.
