Hidden Gem

Location, location, location so they say. Well this garden room has a real hidden quality thanks to the fabulous view behind it. If the garden wasn’t enough of a beautiful setting already, once you walk through the bi-fold doors you are greeted with a huge bi-fold window that picture frames an unexpected, hidden lake.

This unique outlook required a unique design brief to make the most of its one-off position. A relaxing and tranquil garden room was required with the addition of a well-lit, undercover seating area. To let as much natural light in as possible we included two skylights to the overhang above the bi-fold doors so that it feels as though you are outside whenever you are using the building.

Once inside, it was important to maximise the unique view so a large, square bi-fold window was included to act as a picture frame with a substantial sill to sit, relax and enjoy the peace. In addition to the main room there is a small bathroom and hidden store. The store itself being accessed from the rear of the garden room so that it stays hidden from the garden.

Externally, the building is finished with larch cladding, an increasingly popular choice due to its striking appearance and hard wearing nature. Beneath the two metre overhang, we laid a softwood deck to provide a comfortable outdoor seating area.
